Health Environmentalist I, II, or III

The Allen County Health Department is accepting applications for (1) one position as a Full-Time Health Environmentalist I, II, or III.
Primary Duties of an Environmentalist in an independent Local Health Department include but are not limited to:
* Food Service: Reviews plans and conducts detailed sanitation inspections of all types of food establishments. Conducts investigations in response to food borne illness complaints, quarantine products, provide food safety education classes, gathers evidence for enforcement conferences, hearing, or court proceedings.
* Public Facilities: Reviews plans and conducts detailed sanitation inspections of public facilities.
* General Sanitation: Responds to consumer complaints and performs specialized investigations to include but not limited to insect, rodent, and vector breeding sites; controls rabies outbreaks with quarantining of biting animals; gathers evidence for enforcement of public health nuisance laws. Investigates and troubleshoots malfunctioning septic systems to ensure compliance of state and local laws.
* Onsite Sewage: Reviews and approves on-site sewage disposal site plans, conducts soil evaluations, designs and approves locations, conducts inspections of conventional, modified, and experimental treatment systems, provides investigations & gathers evidence for enforcement of onsite sewage laws.
* Customer service oriented. Focused on providing expert knowledge/assistance in out Customers in meeting or exceeding the standards established by the state Department of Public Health. Ability to work as a team member promoting teamwork and approaches problems with that understanding.
* Maintains confidentiality as per Allen County Health Department Confidentiality Agreement and applicable state and federal laws.
